Jan Schumacher is a student assistant for the Academic Freedom Index project at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. He is currently completing his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Theatre and Media Studies. He also studied at the University of Wroclaw and spent an exchange semester at Högskolan Dalarna in Sweden. Schumacher is interested in research on democracy and methods for measuring it. His bachelor’s thesis deals with ‘The Democratic Capabilities Approach: An Alternative Approach to Measuring Democracy’.
