Margaret Monyani was a research fellow for the project “Flucht- und Flüchtlingsforschung: Vernetzung und Transfer (FFVT)“. He is hosted at the Centre for Human Rights Erlangen-Nürnberg (CHREN). She is an adjunct lecturer in the Department of International Relations at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, where she received her PhD in International Relations in 2021. Her PhD explored the global dynamics surrounding refugee policy from an African perspective by ethnographically focusing on the experiences of Somali women refugees in Nairobi, Kenya. She explored the critical links between the Kenyan security regime, the resulting vulnerabilities and the everyday resistance of refugee Somali women to state surveillance and discrimination. Previously, Margaret Monyani completed a Masters in International Relations at Moi University in Kenya, graduating with honours. She is a multifaceted early career researcher and writer with skills in conducting academic and policy research projects as well as leadership experience in civil society and academia. Margaret Monyani is also a research associate at the Refugee Law Initiative (RLI) at the University of London, where she further works as reviewer for the RLI Working Paper Series.
