Geodata for Human Rights Winter School
An international group of early career researchers came together at FAU from 10-14 February for the Geodata for Human Rights Winter School 2025. Jointly with FAU’s Institute of Geography, the Center for Human Rights Erlangen-Nürnberg, and the International Nuremberg Principles Academy, we organized an interdisciplinary program on the innovative use of geospatial technologies for human rights documentation and advocacy.
Participants engaged in hands-on exercises with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing data, learned about the ethical considerations of geodata, and explored real-world applications through case studies and project work. Among the guest lecturerers were geospatial experts from Human Rights Watch, the Syrian Archive, PAX, ENS, Lund University, and the University of California, Berkeley.
We gratefully acknowledge funding provided by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
